
Bangladesh Denim Expo has successfully completed its 10th journey with huge response.
The 2-day the expo has focused on ‘circularity’ as a theme for bringing positive changes in the whole denim supply chain. Over 4958 visitors from 51countries from around the world joined the expo. A total of 63 exhibitors from 11 countries with Bangladesh exhibited their products in the 2-day show.
“The theme of Circularity is to raise awareness and open debate about the need to embrace circular business practices. We live in a world where we are producing too much clothing product that is then discarded rather than reused, recycled or repurposed – this linear business model is unsustainable for the future”, said Mostafiz Uddin, Founder and CEO of Bangladesh Apparel Exchange (BAE) and Bangladesh Denim Expo.
A total of five seminars and two panel discussions were organized in the expo where international and national experts shared their opinions. Rebecca Li, Commercial Director for Rest of Asia of The Lycra Company held a seminar on ‘The Lycra Company Sustainability Agenda’ while Marco Nava, Global Sales of Garmon Kemin Group held a seminar titled ‘White & Green’ on day one. A panel discussion was also held on ‘What It Means for the Bangladesh RMG Industry, Their Customers and End Consumer’.
“We have chosen Circularity as the theme of the expo because it is one of the most pressing topics facing the denim industry, and the wider apparel industry at present”, said Mr. Mohiuddin Rubel, Managing Director of Bangladesh Apparel Exchange (BAE).
Anwar-ul-Alam Chowdhury (Parvez), Chairman of Evince Group & Presidentof BCI, Arshad Jamal (Dipu), Chairman ofTusuka Group & Vice President, BGMEA, Jacob Kahl Jepsen, Head of Trade Section/ Commercial Counsellor, Embassy of Denmark in Bangladesh, Sharif Zahir, Managing Director of Ananta Group & Director, BGMEA, Sabine Kühnl, Chief-in-Editor of Sportswear International, Tanveer Ahmed, Chairman of Elegant Group Ziaur Rahman, Woven Supply Chain Manager of H&M among others were present in the panel discussion. On day two, Jordi Juani, Division Director Asia of Jeanologia SL, held a seminar titled ‘Circularity in Jeans Finishing. Utopia or Reality?’ Besim Ozek, Strategy & Business Development Director of Bossa T. A. S. held a seminar on ‘Recycling n Denim Industry’ and Alice Tonello, R&D Director of Tonello SRL held a seminar titled ‘The Measure of Transparency’. Another panel discussion titled ‘Innovation Aids Circularity: What Advances Should the Bangladesh RMG Industry Embrace to Develop a Circular Economy?’
