Columbia Sportswear spends $33 million to expand headquarters.

After years of squeezing too many employees in too few square feet, Columbia Sportswear is spending $33 milllion for three buildings located near the main campus.

“Columbia Sportswear Company is happy to acquire more space to innovate, design and collaborate to create high-quality products for active people,” the group said in a press release.

The company purchased three buildings from Electro Scientific Industries (ESI), all of which are located within a quarter of a mile from the main headquarters, directly beside the Columbia Sportswear Company Employee Store.

the company’s entire headquarters in Northwest Portland totals 450,000 square feet.At $33 million, this acquisition will add more than 200,000 square feet to Columbia’s existing presence, with one building scheduled to be delivered by June 2020 and the other two by June 2021.

Columbia Sportswear Company has assembled a portfolio of brands for active lives, making it a leader in the global active lifestyle apparel, footwear, accessories, and equipment industry. Founded in 1938 in Portland, Oregon. the company’s brands are today sold in approximately 90 countries.

Columbia Sportswear has grown quickly in recent years.It reported record-breaking sales for its second quarter of fiscal year 2019, ended June 30, with a net sales increase of 9 percent, to $526.2 million. The company increased its full-year outlook on the back of its strong results to predict full-year net sales of $3.00 to $3.04 billion, representing a net sales growth of 7 to 8.5 percent.
