Lionel Messi, the FC Barcelona football player, is making the jump to being a fashion designer.
Fans of Argentina and Barcelona player Lionel Messi can now wear clothes inspired by the Rosario born striker after the launch of The Messi Store
Not only is he one of the greatest footballers ever to have played the game, but now he’s a fashion designer too.

“I like to explore different areas that are of interest beyond sport. I always try to take advantage of every opportunity to be part of something new and exciting, so the launch of my own fashion brand is something I really wanted to do, and I hope people enjoy it as much as I do,” the Argentine football player said in a statement.

The football player has launched a premium clothing label for men, which was presented last week at Santa Eulalia, a leading multi-brand retailer in Barcelona.

The Santa Eulalia store in the heart of the Catalan Capital was the venue for the launch where the player, along with his sister Maria Sol Messi (brand manager) and creative director of the project Ginny Hilfiger showcased some of the items that are available in the current catalogue.

“It’s a dream come true,” Maria Sol Messi said at the launch.

Fashion is what I like the most, ever since I was a child, and it was always a dream of mine to be involved with a clothing brand.

“I studied a lot to dedicate myself to this profession. When an opportunity such as this one presents itself, you have to take advantage of it.”

The collection includes t-shirts, sweatshirts, polo shirts and bomber jackets – Santa Eulalia

A quick glance at The Messi Store website suggests that the Barcelona attacker is a fan of sportswear such as slim-designed tracksuits and T-shirts. A Messi bomber jacket is priced at $200 (R2 981), while a long-sleeve sweater will cost you $70 (R1 043).

Messi’s brand claims to: “specialise in creating quality clothes that boast a sporty edge for everyday life. Our chief brand goal is to extend the core of Leo’s values, vision, and sportsmanship from the pitch to the apparel.”

Messi has already conquered football and if his clothing line is a hit, he’ll soon be dominating the fashion world too.
