The fashion world is witnessing the meteoric rise of modesty and inclusivity. The best of modest fashion has already made its way through the major cities like Milan, Jakarta, Istanbul, Dubai, and London. Now, for the first time ever, the US will play host to the Miami Modest Fashion Week (MMFW) from November 30 to December 2, 2019.
The country’s first international Modest Fashion Week will focus on global awareness, educational talks, fashion blockchains, and interactive experiences. The dedicated event will feature modest wear along with modest resort wear as well as menswear.
The three-day event, which was founded by Malaysian-born Norsham Mohamad- Garcia, is devoted to promoting inclusivity and the power of choice in fashion. “I am very proud of this project. We believe in education, creativity, diversity and authenticity, the future,” said the founder announcing the event on Instagram.
Adding: “I believe that Modest-style Fashion Week will cause a wow effect and will resonate with many. In America, there are a lot of mass markets, behind which identity is lost. Modest designers are very creative and create unique clothes. Americans are very fond of original clothes, the thirst for exclusivity is a big plus for modest designers.”
Recent times have proved that modest fashion is no longer bound to the region and has taken off to reach countries far and wide. Two-time Vogue Arabia cover star Halima Aden is one of the many to stir the conversation on modesty across the globe. “What the world needs to realize is that you don’t have to wear a hijab to be modest. I have friends who aren’t Muslim, who are very modest and who don’t wear the hijab. It’s not a one-size fits all term.” she shared during her interview with Vogue Arabia.
